Queen's Baton Relay

The Queen's Baton Relay travelled through the Gold Coast for the last four days before it was delivered to the Opening Ceremony where Prince Charles read out the Queen's message - officially starting the Commonwealth Games. It travelled for 156 kilometres, through 122 intersections and was carried by 380 batonbearers who travelled by foot, kayak, surf board and stand up paddleboard. Thirteen events were held over the four days in every division with nearly 100,000 people stepping out to see the baton.

Overall coordination was provided to manage the efforts of the City, GOLDOC, Queensland Police Services, Department of Transport and Main Roads and other Emergency Services in terms of traffic management, event delivery, city presentation, security, logistics and crowd management. Aquatic, special events, traffic management, land use and safety and security approvals were sought and granted for the successful delivery of this event.
